🎵 MUSIC & THROAT SINGING
▶
Huun-Huur-Tu Official Page
Tuvan throat singing group. Damon says they are "the real thing." High praise from a man who does not give compliments easily.
▶
Alash Ensemble
Another Tuvan throat singing group. Damon heard them once and said "they know what they are doing." He does not elaborate.
▶
Wikipedia: Khoomei / Throat Singing
For people who want to understand what Damon does. Damon read this article once and said "this is half correct which is better than most."
▶
YouTube - Kargyraa Recordings
If you want to hear what kargyraa sounds like from people other than Damon. Most of these are real. A few are tourists. Damon can tell the difference instantly.
▶
UbuWeb - Avant Garde Archive
I showed this to Damon expecting him to dismiss it. He bookmarked it. He now reads poetry on here. This is the only time my website recommendations have ever worked on him.
🌎 MONGOLIA
▶
Wikipedia: Altai Mountains
Where Damon is from, roughly. I showed him this page. He read it slowly. He said "the photos are not the real photos but the words are mostly right."
▶
Discover Mongolia (Official Tourism)
Damon scrolled this for 15 minutes and then said "this is for foreigners." I pointed out that most of the people reading this website are foreigners. He said "i know" and kept scrolling.
▶
Wikipedia: Mongolian Cuisine
Damon read this article and said "none of these recipes are right." He did not elaborate on which ones were wrong or how. He just said that and then left.
💻 OLD WEB STUFF (still alive!)
▶
Cameron's World - GeoCities Museum
A tribute to what the old GeoCities sites looked like. I showed this to Damon so he could understand why his website has the aesthetic it does. He said "i see." That was all.
▶
The Wayback Machine
Archives every website that ever existed. Damon asked me if this includes his apartment. I said no. He said "what about my phone." I said it does not archive phones. He said "disappointing."
▶
Lings Cars
A UK car leasing website that looks like it was made by 40 different 11-year-olds. Damon saw this and said "this is more honest than most websites." I think he means it as a compliment.
▶
Arngren (Norwegian electronics)
A Norwegian retailer whose website is held together by tape and spite. Damon scrolled this for 30 minutes. He did not buy anything. He just scrolled.
▶
Zombocom
You can do anything at zombocom. Damon listened to the intro voice once and said "this man understands something."
▶
Pointer Pointer
Move your mouse. Someone points at it. Damon moved his mouse for 8 minutes straight in silence. I had to leave the room.
▶
The Useless Web
One button. Takes you to a random pointless website. Damon pressed it 11 times. He says the internet should be more like this.
💼 USEFUL STUFF
▶
Winamp
Still alive. Technically. The best media player ever made. Damon does not use it because he does not own a computer but he approves of the name.
▶
Internet Archive
All of human knowledge, slowly. Damon asked if his recordings would be archived here after he dies. I said they can be. He said "good." That was the end of the conversation.
▶
HTML Goodies
I bookmarked this for Damon in case he ever wants to update the site himself. He will not. But the link is here.
▶
Hotmail (now Outlook)
Where damon_real@hotmail.com lives. Damon checks this "when he feels like it" which is approximately once every 10 days.
✍ FRIENDS & ASSOCIATES
▶
Ruslans Web Design
My website (link goes to Neocities where i eventually moved). I build web pages for people. Rates are negotiable. Barter accepted WITHIN REASON. (I am no longer accepting payment in the form of "owing someone less money.")
▶ Sergeis Import/Export Business
[DEAD LINK] Sergei took his site down. He says he doesnt need a web presence. He and damon have this in common.
▶
Andreis Photography (archive)
Andrei takes photos of buildings and cats. His original site is gone but similar work lives on Flickr. Misha the cat who was disturbed by Damons singing is not in these but a lookalike is.
▶
Find The Corner Bar (or places like it)
The Corner does not have an official website. Damon likes this about them. They can be found via the yellow pages if you are old enough to know what those are.
Want your link here? Email Damon's Agent
Damon will review it. He has rejected 4 link submissions so far.
Reasons include: "no" and "i dont trust that website" and "who is this person" and "ruslan just put it up" (which contradicts the previous three but i did not point this out).
